How To Help Your Child Build Confidence In Piano Playing

Do you wish that your child can play the piano confidently, anywhere, anytime, to any number of people?

Watch the video below to discover how you can help your child build confidence in their playing.

When our kids learn piano, we as parents would love to see them play songs for us or for others.

But kids usually lack confidence to perform, even if it is just 1 person – you.

So how can you help your child play and perform on the piano confidently?

Start Small.

A person build confidence by achieving the goals set, over a period of time.

And you can do that by setting small goals that allow them to achieve easily first.

Just like a child learning how to count from 1 to 10.

Once that is achieved, we move on to 11 to 20… then 21 to 30… and to 100, and to 200… to 1000, and so on.

Similarly, you can help your child build confidence in performing, by starting small too.

Start with just 1 audience. It can be you, or even his/her favourite soft toy. Start with the smallest number of audience to get things start. Make it easy for them to start.

Then, increase the audience size gradually.

Next, the child can perform for parents and siblings.

Then add in relatives and friends as well.

Then increase the frequency of the performance. From once a month, to once every 2 weeks.

Then perform in your teacher’s student recital in front of other students.

Overtime, the child will enjoy performing, and he/she won’t feel stress or nervous when being invited to perform.

Instead, they will be excited to take up the performance opportunity!

And when it comes to performing, it doesn’t mean you have to get the child to play difficult pieces (beyond their level) to impress the audience.

Start from simple pieces that they can play it well. It is HOW they play, not What they play.

And every time they perform well, they will be proud of their performance, and they will gain more confidence to perform more in the future, regardless of the audience size.

This will also greatly motivate the child to progress far in piano.
