Ms Tan’s musical journey started when she joined Chinese Orchestra CCA in secondary school and junior college (JC) as a Chinese Flute/Dizi member and Sectional Leader.

After JC, she decided to pick up the piano, flute and vocals for leisure, and managed to achieve grade 8 certificates in these instruments within a span of a few years.

This allowed her to start her music teaching career at a young age.

She was awarded the Edusave Scholarship at Secondary 4, but chose to enter a JC before sitting for her ‘O’ Levels through Direct School Admission using her musical talents instead of her ‘O’ Level results. It was then when she realized she wanted her future career to be strongly related to music.

Thus, she chose to enrol in LASALLE College of the Arts after JC, where she was awarded the LASALLE Scholarship, and graduated with First Class Honours. Her thesis paper was on how to improve the quality of classical music education in Singapore, which has been more than ever, relevant to her since she became Principal of Silversnow Music School.

After her undergraduate degree, she was offered the South East Asia Sheffield Scholarship from University of Sheffield to study Masters in Music Management.

However, as she wanted to have the opportunity to perform in London, she pursued her Masters from King’s College London instead, where she fulfilled her dream of performing in famous landmarks like Southwark Cathedral. In King’s, she decided to focus on the research of the marriage of classical music performances and YouTube. She was also awarded the prestigious King’s Interdisciplinary (Thinking Creativity) Award.

She has years of experiences teaching in music schools with 100% passes for her students’ ABRSM & LCM music examinations, and is an AMIS and MOE-certified music teacher. She always believes that it is never too late to learn music, and is constantly upgrading her music skills even till today.

With her teaching experiences, topped up with her strong entrepreneurial spirit as a fresh Masters graduate, she decided to set up Silversnow Music School to spread her love of music and joy to all students enrolled in Silversnow.

As one of the youngest recipients, she was awarded the Singapore Outstanding Enterprise Award (Top 150 SMEs) 2016/2017, and under her helm, Silversnow Music School was also given the prestigious title Best Enrichment and Learning Schools Award (Best Boutique Music School) by Parents World Magazine, featured in the Nov/Dec 2017 issue.
