About
Hi, I’m Ms Jie Ying. I have been teaching the piano since 2008. Besides teaching, I do piano accompaniments regularly as well, having experiences with a wide range of instruments, including vocals, violin, clarinet, flute and brass instruments etc.
My music journey started when I was 5 years old. My dad is a Professional Artist himself, he taught me piano at the beginning and disciplined me strictly in my practice.
I hated practice (just like most of us do), but my dad always told me to persevere, and one day i will understand the meaning behind all his efforts. True enough, now that I’m a piano teacher myself, I can see how precious this skill is as it will follow me for the rest of my life.
During my journey in teaching, i have met many students, ranging from 3 years to even up to 70 years old.
The joy of seeing them eagerly wanting to show you what they have practised, being able to play a song from nothing, and simply just seeing them improve makes me contented and motivated as a music teacher.
Every year, I also organise recitals or mini concerts for my students, kids and adults to perform. I believe it is important for students to have opportunity to perform, to build up their confidence, and most importantly, to share their joy of music with others.
Throughout my years of learning piano, even to tertiary levels, I was given many opportunities to perform, and that allows me to grow as an all-rounded musician. And that is what I’d like to provide for my own students too.
I also enjoy do piano accompaniments too as it keeps my fingers moving all the time, improve my sight reading, explore new repertoire. These keeps me refreshed and motivated. And accompaniments include playing for auditions, stage performances, and also for ABRSM exams as well.
I have benefited greatly from music education, and I felt privileged to be able to give back more by teaching and grooming the next generation of musicians. I welcome you to explore and enjoy lessons together with me!
As an adult learner, I had no previous music experience and Jie Ying successfully taught me how to play my favourite classical piece (Chopin – Nocturne 20) within a year. She is an accomplished pianist, and really knows her stuff. She was very kind and patient with me despite my slow learning, and gives great constructive advice on how to improve on my piano playing. Her rates are very good too. Thank you Jie Ying! 10/10 would recommend to friends.
I worked with Jieying as my accompanist on a few occasions. She is very reliable to arrange rehearsals with and is committed to her role as an accompanist. When she plays, she is sensitive to the instrumentalist /singer, and supports them well musically. Her sight reading is also a plus, so it’s less worrying for us 🙂 She has accompanied me for many of my vocal exams and recitals.
