Hello! I’m Teacher Joanne, and here’s a little more about myself.
I took up piano at the age of 7, like most students, I progressed up the levels and attained the ATCL Diploma in Music Performance at age of 23.
Back then, I was still working in the accounting industry while teaching part-time in a music school near my home at Compass One. That is how I started my teaching career, and then went full-time private teaching in 2015.
Over the years, I have taught kids and adult students, age range from 4 to 30 years old, over a range of genres. From movies, anime soundtracks, pop songs, jazz music, and any other kinds of music my students love to explore.
That’s what I do to cater to my students, because I believe students will be more motivated in their learning when they play songs they love.
I love to make my lessons engaging and always encourage my students to ask actively, whether it is during or after lesson time. Like the saying goes, there’s never silly questions in my classes!
I also derive joy from helping my students understand a certain concept or seeing them light up upon learning new music knowledge/ trivia during lessons.
While I’m not teaching, I’ll be seeking new innovative teaching tools like games/apps to help my students learn through activities and have fun during lessons!
Through these music games and activities, sometimes my students inspire me to see things from another perspective which I would not have thought of. In a way, I’m also learning and growing with them too.
I conduct my home studio at Sengkang, and also at students’ homes around Sengkang Punggol area. See you in my class!
