About

Ms Melissa, also known as Teacher Melissa to all her students started her teaching career back in 2008 when she was doing her Bachelor of Social Science in NUS.

After graduation, she went to Northwestern State University, United States to pursue her Bachelor of Music (Piano Performance). She was given the privilege to play in the Masterclass with Concert Pianist, Arthur Pizzaro.

She was also the recipient of the Charles Vinson Scholarship and was in the President’s list thrice consecutively. She was also appointed as a Piano instructor in the University’s Music Academy where her student clinch the Honours Award in the Junior Category of the Sonatina Festival.

Teacher Melissa strongly believes in making her music lessons enjoyable for her students and maximising their potentials to the fullest.

Equipped with her Masters in Education (Music) where she attained extensive knowledge in the realm of Piano Pedagogy and Effective Piano Practices, Melissa takes pride in customising every lesson to cater to students of all ages with different abilities.

Melissa has designed and is still constantly designing various interactive games to incorporate the element of fun in learning music, and is very pleased to see that her students are more engaged and motivated during their lessons.

Her passion and devotion to teaching saw a proven track record of multiple students scoring distinctions in their piano exams.

In addition to teaching the piano, Melissa also frequently organises students’ recitals and music workshops to cultivate students’ performance abilities as well as to develop their imagination and creativity to enhance their piano learning.

Melissa believes in consistent communication with parents, so she always makes the effort to share her students’ progress with their parents regularly. Both her students and their parents have expressed their gratitude towards Melissa for going the extra mile in her lessons as seen in the testimonials below.

She also enjoys performing as a collaborative pianist and conductor with various choirs and instrumentalists over the years.

Melissa not only knows music and piano but also demonstrates great skills in teaching. She uses a variety of tool (including modern apps) to engage children of all ages and uses great rewards and motivational techniques. My daughter, Ethel Marie, learned how to play piano and was in two recitals where she was excellent. Ethel adored her and so did I. We even drive over weekly just to learn piano from her. My 4 years old daughter have been taking piano lessons from Teacher Melissa for about 6 months. She’s very engaging and detailed in her lessons, always coming up with ideas/games to keep the children interested in her class. In a short span of time, my daughter is able to read the music notes and play simple pieces on her own. Really proud of her progress and thank you Teacher Melissa for her dedication!

Ms Melissa is a really nice piano teacher. She taught me very well. For example, the piano pieces she gave me to work on weren’t too easy or too hard. Also, she didn’t give me too much or too little pieces to work on. But the part I like best as her being my piano teacher is that she gives me examples on how to play a part.

When I do something wrong, she would freeze me and come fix it and tell me what to do next time. I think that a piano teacher should be able to play the piano fluently. Ms Melissa is just like that. When I’m waiting for my lesson to start, I can hear her play pieces, etudes and many more stuff.

I practice piano for about an hour a day and now I am a lot better at piano and starting to write my own compositions. Ms Melissa is a very nice piano teacher and I really want her to still be my piano teacher.
