About
Let start from a little introduction about Ms Shirley. Shirley moved to Hong Kong at the age of 3, and from there she embarked on her music journey. She began learning piano at the age of 5 and had obtained ABRSM grade 8 by the age of 12. Within the same year, she came back to Singapore to continue her studies.
She had participated in numerous competitions and performances in both Hong Kong and Singapore. Two of the more meaningful ones are the Singapore National Youth Competition and Hong Kong Youth Piano Competition. Shirley obtained 4th Place in the Hong Kong Youth Piano Competition.
Under the private tutoring of Dr Paul Liang, Shirley had the honor to be part of the master class conducted by Professor Bryce Morrison in Singapore National Youth Competition.
Shirley is a patient teacher that thrives to bring out the interest in music in every student. To her, the process of learning the piano is not merely about obtaining certificates; it could be a form of relaxation and expression.
She tailors the lesson to suit every student’s ability and goal. Lessons for children are made fun and enjoyable. Duet playing with teacher, clapping and singing etc are incorporated with the usual practical and theory lesson.
These exercises help to sustain children’s interests and it sets a good underlying foundation for the future aural examination. Her students responded well to these exercises.
As a result, her students improved tremendously within the first few months of learning. Despite already being a teacher, Shirley believes that learning does not end here. Thus, she is currently self-learning and has plans to further her studies in the future.
